How hard is it to pick up a permit I the fall? I put in for the lottery last june, so does that give you a competitive edge?

no no edge at all; however i checked the rec.gov site at least 3-4, 5 times every day all august and then bingo got a permit with short notice a week out and made it happen last week. GROH how did you do a layover? I thought that there were no two nights in the same camp I managed to add an extra day and went really slow from the put in down to echo (did three nights) one of which rec.gov had double booked and had to share a night at Limestone with another group go figure how that happened.

I picked up a cancellation for a September 9th launch the first day of low season use. It was badass we went pot creek2, rippling 2, then 2-days at jones1 for the layover. Full volleyball game 7 on 7 at rippling 2. Perfect weather, no bugs, and a great way to finish a season. The final kicker was the cancellation landed on the first day of my six days off, so I didn't even have to use a vacation day!

rec.gov

Trying to get a feel for how well the rec.gov system is working. Those of you who have gone down the last few weeks did you see two or three other groups at the put in? I ask because it seemed there were way more September cancelations available under the old system. I'm thinking that the new system does not give any incentive to turn in your permit if you have to cancel.
Thanks

They only allow 1 launch per day in the low use season.I also talked to the ranger office and they do allow layovers. The low use season is first come first serve for camps, they do not assign camps.10 days and counting on our trip.
