so i usually use the stairs put in just down from gateway. i drop my boat there then leave the car at picnic and hitch up. i think it's better to hitch when your ass is dry!! ..for the first lap at least.
i have heard a couple stories over the years of unattended boats vanishing, but i'm honestly not that worried about it. if it happens, it happens

All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

Take a bike and either leave it at Picnic Rock or drop your gear and bike back up when you're dry (my kids' brilliant idea when they got tired of waiting cold and wet). It's a quick 2 mile bike ride. Rides are easy to find on busy days but the Poudre's not as friendly to hitching as it used to be - I've walked a few too many times in the early evenings on Filter and Bridges.

Like Curtis said, a bike is great. Done that on filter, bridges/poudre park. Or it is a great warm up run. I think I have enjoyed jogging to the putin (pre boating) more than biking it. I'll admit that might be a little twisted of me.

I think I'd rather boat solo than ride a road bike on that hwy. Now that scares me. Esp on a weekend.
