Experienced Grand Canyon oarsmen/women wanted
We are a group of four early 50s college pals (a surgeon, an attorney and solar developer, and a software guy) with 3 HS kids and four strong college kids (two of whom are going to OARS raft guide school in June) from the East looking to fill out our GC permit with a few experienced Canyon types. Two of us worked as professional raft guides in the 1980s and '90s, and while we're confident of our skills, we'd appreciate having some younger rafters with more recent experience to enhance our trip. Someone--or a couple--who has a few GC trips under their belt and who's interested in some additional Grand Canyon logbook time would be ideal. Two of us plan to kayak and would welcome another strong whitewater paddler as well. Basically, we have 3-5 spots on our 16-person trip and want to find a few can-do types to join our adventure. PRO is outfitting the trip with three 18' and one 16' rafts. Costs are about $1,100 per person, but if you have killer skills/experience we can discuss reducing that (within the non-commercial rules of course). We are not likely to be a big party group, but we're not boring either. We're meeting in Flagstaff on July 7 and launching from Lee's Ferry on July 9, with an estimated takeout at Diamond Creek on 7/23.
If you're interested, please send a short note describing your experience and how you think you'd fit in with our group.
