end of May, kid friendly, close to Front Range?

Yo, I am looking to take my kids, 2 and 4 on their first rafting trip. What stretch would you recommend within a few hours drive of Denver that is below class III, has good campsites for little kids, and is preferably somewhat roadside?

I suggest Ruby/Horsethief. While not roadside and probably further than you'd like to drive it will be more enjoyable for the kids on a first overnight trip. Water and weather will be warmer for them in May.

Agreed, Ruby/Horsethief would be my suggestion. 2-3 nights, great scenery, easy to get a permit. If you do go, make sure the kiddos are PFDed through the Black Rocks section.

You could also do the Upper C if you want to do a 1 night closer to Denver. There is a III on that stretch I believe. (Haven't done it yet myself)

You could go Rancho Del Rio to Catamount for 18 miles of I-II.

End of may you might find some campsites blown out by runoff on the Upper C. Last spring it ran 10k at that time. Just depends on the weather gods

We could considering how full reservoirs are. The run off could be allowed to just run.
