I've thought of floating Columbia someday myself. Kind of like a modern day Huck Fin adventure. My thought was to pick up some piece of crap that floats like an old beat up pontoon boat, barge, etc. Just use a nice 10hp outboard strapped to it. Just enough power to keep it in the middle of the channel and to get out of the way of on coming traffic. Pitch a tent right on it. When I get to the end of the trip, pull my motor off and sell it for what ever I can get for it.

Been there done that, with a 20' Sea Ray. If you have power and don't mind sharing every inch of every mile with a barge, or a freighter or something like it, yeah, it's good.
Otherwise, I'd be looking to some of the great whitewater stretches available in the region.

I have been searching google university and only find scattered info. Anybody got any beta? Maybe the freight haulers can give a big enough wake to give me a rapid or two.

Good view, long row potentially against the wind. Wanna try a little known river, "The upper Seletz" East of Toledo of many. Later in the summer go shallow with little draft. Worth the trip.
