Bug report for the Yampa

We are putting in next week and I was hoping someone could give us a bug report.
I figure if the water is drooping, there might be a high level of skeeters.

Water was at 10-12k on Yampa when we floated and was finally starting to drop. A few mosquitos starting at Laddie camps, minor at Sea Cliff and then bad at Cove. We were getting bit pretty bad mid-river in Island and Rainbow Park.

I can't recommend the Thermocell mini-lanterns enough. Two of them in camp cut #s down drastically. I am not sure if you can find the flame lit ones anymore though and they are the only ones that work consistently above 4500 feet.

Yes on the Skeeters

Just took out today. Mosquitoes were bad for us beginning at Laddie Park. Extra bad by Box Elder and really F-ing bad at Echo Park. Camp at Jones 2 was full of skeeters. Can't imagine what the folks staying in Island Park area had to deal with. Bring all your defenses.
Not too bad during the day though (except getting water at Echo Park).

Despite the bloodsuckers we had a great trip!

Do they back off later in the summer, launch 8/22, after the flooded areas dry up?

Just got off two days ago. Bugs were horrible everywhere past Box Elder. The farther down, the worse they got. Watch the new rock in Big Joe on the right.

Post trip bug report

We put in on June 29th and took out July 4th.
6 days on river
camp 1 Anderson No real bug problems
camp2 Harding 1 A few skeeters, but no problems
camp 3 Box Elder 1 Same thing, no problems
camp 4 Laddie 1 Moderate Skeeters, just had to cover up all exposed areas
camp 5 Cove STAY AWAY! The skeeters were waiting for us and attacked as we hit the beach. It sucked. We broke camp at 7:30 AM just to get away from them.

The rest of the trip was great. Water level was good, Warm Springs was the easiest I have ever experienced.
