info for future Green River trips
This is a non-thread, intended for anyone planning a trip on the Green River in Utah from Mineral Bottom or Mineral Canyon to the Confluence or Spanish Bottom. Other keywords Stillwater Canyon and Labrynth Canyon.
In the event of hard rain such as we have seen in the last week, both shuttle operators, Tex's Riverways and Tag-a-long Expeditions will not go down to Mineral Bottom. They report that the slick mud that is on part of the road in is too unsafe, and they will not risk it until it is well dry. Tag-a-long will not issue a refund for deposits in that situation, not sure on Tex's. They gave us 3 choices:
1) Divert to Meander Canyon on the Colorado from Potash to anywhere from Spanish Bottom and up,
2) Divert to Ruby Ranch and paddle the +90 miles to the Confluence,
3) Cancel and forfit deposits.
They will not modify the scheduled put-in or take-out dates.
As indicated, this what Tag offered, not sure on Tex but suspect it's the same.
We opted for Meander. The upside was with all the rain, normal jetboat tours were non-existent. Major point is that even with the repair work in 2011, Mineral Canyon road is still not an all-weather road.
