Grand Canyon Colorado River Flows - November, December, January

Updated October 28, 2015

The release volume from Glen Canyon Dam for November, 2015, will be 600,000 acre-feet. Hourly releases during November, 2015, are anticipated to fluctuate between approximately 7,000 cfs in the nighttime and 13,000 cfs in the daytime.

A project to remove a population of invasive green sunfish from a backwater slough below Glen Canyon Dam is scheduled for November, 2015. Steady flows of 9,000 cfs for two three-day periods (described below) will be needed to support this effort.

Steady releases of 9,000 cfs will begin Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 0700 hours and last through Friday November 6, 2015 at 1800 hours.

A second round of steady releases will begin Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 0700 hours and last through Monday, November 16, 2015, at 1800 hours.

Prior to and after each 3-day period of steady flows, a load-following pattern consistent with the Glen Canyon Dam Operating Criteria (Federal Register, Volume 62, No. 41, March 3, 1997) will be reestablished. While scheduled releases will be steady at 9,000 cfs, load control (AGC) will be maintained at Glen Canyon Dam for the duration of this special release.

The anticipated release volume for December, 2015, is 800,000 acre-feet with daily fluctuations between approximately 9,000 cfs and 17,000 cfs.

The anticipated release volume for January, 2016, is 800,000 acre-feet with daily fluctuations between approximately 9,000 cfs and 17,000 cfs. This will be confirmed in a subsequent notification toward the end of November.
