Deso Bug Beta Needed

Checking to see of any buzzards have taken out from a Deso/Gray trip in the last week and could give report on the bugs. The river has come up a bunch which bodes well for our launch on the 21st but was hoping to get real time beta from someone who experienced it.

At 22K+ we are stoked, should make for a quick run right down the middle!

Also, any other beta regarding camps, bears, big rapids would be most helpful.

Thanks.

Took off yesterday. Bugs were at the put in and we were told they just came out the day before. (6-9-16) Water was big and splashy and a lot of fun. Saw a bear at canyon camp but he left after a little yelling and did not come back. We stayed there for 2 days and did not see it again. Was a great trip. Have fun

Took out on June 5th and our whole trip was bug free. Coal Creek was huge!

BUMP - Anyone recently off Deso that can provide an update. I assume with it dropping the bugs are bad?

One of our employees took out on the 26th and the bugs were in full effect the first few days. He said Deet was only partially effective. I would suggests some netting and full coverage clothing.

Your assumption is correct. The first three days were brutal, spray wasn't keeping them off, go with a net. Finally let up to nonexistent levels at Nefertiti. Got off on the 27th. Enjoy!

FYI. Saw a small black bear while scouting Wire Fence.

We took out the 25th and can confirm that the bugs were miserable prior to Rock Creek. It was my first time down Deso and they were not as bad as I'd been expecting, but there were times that I was awfully glad of a head net, long sleeves, and long pants. Bug juice helped but didn't completely prevent bites. After Rock Creek, there was little in the way of bug activity other than the odd biting fly.

Mosquitos can't bite through Nylon. Wear Nylon clothing and a head net if they are bad and you will limit exposure to only your hands and feet which can be covered in deet.

First 2 nights (Sand Wash and Jack Creek) were bad but it was fine after that for mosquitoes. Log cabin 2 had gnats until about 8 then nothing at all. I waded into the water to eat dinner and watched everyone else waving their hands over their plates as I ate mostly bug free.

We took out on the 26th, had a great time. Big standing waves on class 2-3 that were washed out. Enjoy.
