About "Rock Snot" (Didymo)

Many of us have experienced the proliferation of an algal bloom by what's commonly called "rock snot" - the slimy stuff covering rocks - that seems to have largely appeared in the past decade. I know I've wondered what caused this, is the organism native or introduced, etc.

For those interested, here's a link to an informative and interesting paper that will appear in BioScience.

The paper's currently pre-publication, and the link will probably expire when it's published - get it now if you're interested.
