We ditched the old add-on photo script because hackers were trying to break in through a known exploit in that software. We simply moved everyone's photos into the built in photo album system that was added to the forum software a few years ago.

If you don't mind can you all give me more details on what makes the new system suck versus the old one? Is it the navigation, description, size of the thumbnails, hard to find certain photos (if so, give some details). The more info you can provide about it's suckyness the better so we can work on s solution.

I have two main problems with the current photo app. I admit I gave up trying to upload files since it reverted back to the current system, so correct me if these details are wrong.

The most significant problem is the limitation on size and resolution. I believe the maximum resolution is something like 600x400, which is fine for viewing on a smartphone (though still quite a bit lower than resolution on mine), but not much else. I don't recall what the file size limit is, but it's also small and therefore requires a lot of compression. Facebook and Google take ~2k x 2k resolution files with no discernible file size limit (though I'm sure there is some minimal compression).

The second problem is ease of uploading. Again, the standard interface (like Facebook & Google) will take any jpeg and resize it to their maximum specs. As I recall, the mountainbuzz uploader forces you to do this yourself, which usually involves trying to upload a file, getting rejected, resizing it, getting rejected again because your file is too large, compressing it again, then finally uploading it.

Thanks for listening!

Kev hit it perfectly. The piss poor resolution makes even the photos that get uploaded not worth viewing.

The last thread got shut down due in part to thread jacking. Don't jake this one to be all about the photos.

Oh wait... I agree, the current photo system s#€%$.
My 2 cents would be the crop that auto happens on the home page. Yes they are not cropped if you click on them but the system is currently so bad that no one clicks on the images anymore.

Photo gallery settings have been updated to 2048 pixels wide x 2048 pixels tall and uploads up to 4 MB are accepted.

As for the auto crop of the home page, that's done to keep the aspect ratio of the images so profile photos and landscape photos will fit properly on the page. It will just crop them square but you can click to see the full res photos.

I hope this helps.

Please keep the feedback coming. We need it to make sure things are dialed in.
