Hey bobber - regardless of the ongoing discussion here, I'm interested to know if you're a volunteer with the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club or an NPS volunteer working on whatever Babette needs done. When I lived in Knoxville ('91-'96) and Asheville ('97-'01) I worked with the SMHC in the park, mostly on the AT but sometimes on other trails. I also worked on an ATC trail crew (the Rocky Top Crew) on the AT in the park. Glad to hear that you're a volunteer for GRSM. What campsites #’s do you maintain? I’ve stayed at about 75% of them.

Have you been heavily involved in the Road to Nowhere discussions? I certainly have given the NPS multiple earfuls on that one.

That park, one of my personal favorites (great paddling, hiking, backpacking, etc.), needs all the help it can get. With 800+ miles of trails, 100+ backcountry campsites and shelters, countless T&E species, dozens of external threats and 10 million annual visitors, it's definitely under the gun.

Does anybody else miss Chunderboy?

I mean not that trout boober is anywhere near as cool as he was but man it was so much fun to see how much he would piss people off.

RIP chunder

ben

PS. I think we need a special area of the buzz dedicated to chunder

I wasn't around when the chunderboy was here, but I find it hard to believe that anyone could compare chunderboy and TB.....I've read a select few of the Chunder posts and they are freaking hilarious and obviously intentionally over the top as a joke....not as a blatent attempt to get a rise out of gullible people......I've read plenty of TB's posts and not only didn't find any of them entertaining but found them to be simply a waste of time......SO,,,,,I don't really care if you kick the guy off or not but I say if you're a grown adult there's really no reason why this guy should be able to get under anyone's skin in the slightest bit....are we that easily riled people??

I have no problem with TB though I find his arguments to rarely be convincing (though I actually agree with many of the more conservative viewpoints) and often tasteless. I have no wish for anyone to be banned over petty arguments and political bickering and I find simply ignoring what he says suffices.

HOWEVER, COMPARING THE CHUNDERBOY TO TROUTBOBBER IS ABSOLUTELY UNCALLED FOR. Troutbobber is nowhere close to the same league as Chunderboy. Chunderboy had a certain irresistable charisma and an ineffable way of pushing buttons and making people glad those buttons had been pushed. And amidst his making people laugh at themselves and each other he was out running the shit and making a difference in the Colorado kayaking community. Chunderboy's character was an enjoyable and beneficial persona in the Buzz community, not a troll. DO NOT COMPARE THE CHUNDERBOY TO TB.

I work with the Adopt a Campsite program at GSMNP and yes, Ranger Collavo can always use another pair of hands, boots etc. Campsites 92 and 93, the Twenty Mile section of the park near Tapoco Lodge, the Tail of the Dragon, west of the Shuckstack section of the AT.

I have not spoken out about the RTN b/c I hang with a lot of Bryson City types and you never know which way they are going to fall on that issue. It is very much a hot button issue with some in them parts.

1943 is very recent in those folk's minds and the feel very strongly about certain things. 1861-65 still lives on for many people up there: Recently visited the Bryson City Cemetary and not a few of the old graves were decorated with the Confederate Battle Flag. You Westrons have no idea: FORGET, HELL!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! !

Personally, I think it is a bad idea to finish the road, very bad indeed. But a lot o' them thar' boys gots scatter guns etc and you never know. You fellers can spout off all you want with your FU and suggesting I fellate myself or Cheney, laughable. Them boys use guns and are far better shots than our VP.

Indeed GSMNP is the most heavily visited park in the US.

Don't make me tell RugbyBoy_90210 about this place.

Have heard rumours of this "chunderboy" before.

Perchance he is a sleepless malice, a nameless fear. Or a spook story liberal trolls tell their kids about at night, "don't you rat out my troll handle, or I'll get Chunderboy after you."

A smiley face if you can ID the two movies I paraphrased.
