As for WTF is wrong with me, I spoke with my mom last night. That always unsettles me. Mom-of-Helio is responsible for most of my atrophied emotional development, but that's another story.
I didn't mean to say in the above that criticizing Israel is support for Hamas, nor do I think my brief post justifies that interpretation, but let's let that go.
Calling Israel's action 'terrorism' is hyperbole. Yes, the same definition should be applied to both sides.
Perhaps you should re-read Clausewitz On War
. Israel's actions are governed by a political objective (which is to incapacitate Hamas' rocket-firing capability and military infrastructure). There is a specific goal that is achievable.
That you equate this political objective to Hamas' indiscriminate fire of untargeted, unguided
munitions expresses to me that you have no comprehension of warfare whatsoever. I'm not trying to call you stupid, here. I do, however, wish you would awaken yourself to examine the logic between these two sets of violence.
Is there a difference to you in the motivation
Is there a difference to you in the objective (and the rationality/logic of the objective)
Is there a difference to you in the tactical pursuit of the objective?
Furthermore (and goddammit!)
Civilians die in armed conflict. Electricity generation and all types of infrastructure are fair game in armed conflict. Period. End of story.
Common-dreams tries to paint a picture of Israel (by twisting Friedman's rather dumb editorial) in which the Israeli's are routinely blowing up 10-story apartment buildings, and that's not what's going on there.
Where was common-dreams.org during the 8-years of rocket attacks? Where were they when Hamas was gunning down Fatah in the streets of Gaza in 2007?
I'm not trying to say that common dreams, or you, support Hamas. What I'm saying is you are callously indifferent to the suffering of Israeli's.
