There is a word missing from McCains issues page....

Its the word "poverty"

check it out yourself:

Hit CTRL F then type in poverty and search the entire page. He is not interested in that as an issue:

JohnMcCain.com - McCain-Palin 2008

He has no intentions to address the needs of 34 million people in our county.

I don't think we can or should fight explicitly against poverty--people have to help themselves--but we can and should fight against lack of opportunity. There's a lot less opportunity these days than 25 years ago. It's harder for the poor, even if they want to, to get out of their hole. Thanks to low taxes, our education system really sucks.

It would be nice to see Republicans recognize that it isn't a good thing that the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I'm always amazed at how many non-rich people vote Republican because they buy into their hype.

Basil,

I agree man. One of the things that oponents of social programs continually offer up is that handout dont help people. Then they go inot the whole give a man a fish thing. They say this because they have no idea what social programs do... train people to fish.

Added into that metaphor is that people have no place to fish because new jobs are not being created and the old ones are being shipped over seas.

the crazy thing about education is that (i may be wrong) the republicans have significantly increased spending on education but what happens is good school districts are rewarded with more money while bad districts are punished with less money. Dont get me wrong rewarding folks for good work is a great thing. However pulling funds from struggling districts is a recipe for disaster and only contributes to more poverty.

As well the way that they qualify is through test scores so kids are not learning to think for them selves only to do well on tests.

I can't believe that Republicans are increasing spending on education. Perhaps they claim through manipulation of statistics that they are increasing spending by 2% or so, but that's meaningless.

I wish we spent as much on education as we did on the military.
