The Obamas will pay for many of the White House improvements themselves after the president earned $2.5m (£1.7m) last year alone in royalties from the sale of his books, including the memoir Dreams from My Father. They will redecorate their private quarters out of their own purse – turning down $100,000 of taxpayers’ money allocated by Congress. “The Obamas have determined now is not the time to use taxpayer funds,” said Camille Johnston, Michelle’s communications director.

Stock said the Obamas were wise to pay for their own interior decorating: “It’s a very smart decision, given where we are now with the taxpayer and the state of the economy.”

In other news:

I'm glad to see the Champions of Diversity and the anti-establishment crowd can still pull out the hate like no other. Jesus Christ, an unpolished outsider finally makes it on the national scene and is crucified. Not an ounce of sympathy or even apathy, just pure vitriol. She no longer stands a chance of assuming a leadership role in our nation, yet false accusations fly and the character assassination just roles on and on and on....

Way to perpetuate the system everyone.

Unpolished outsider? That's one of those euphemisms, isn't it?

The truth is Palin wasn't ready for primetime last August, and she has reinforced that fact repeatedly since then. The late Friday afternoon before a major holiday press conference confirmed the obvious: Palin is a narcissist and a lightweight. That isn't hateful, it's reality. She's a cartoon character. OK, that was kinda hateful.

So what? So what if she wasn't ready? She didn't win, remember? So I think that few people would argue otherwise. Most people I like aren't "ready for primetime" and I have met very few, that I like, who are. The fact that she wasn't polished like every other wax figure in the news is precisely what I like about her.

So you just keep on perpetuatin'.......

A political wannabe who is simply a "maverick" isn't enough for me.

Thank God she didn't win. But she didn't go away, did she? Nope, she lingered on like a pesky fungus. In the end, she was her own undoing. That is her ultimate gift to America: a self-inflated ego that publically burst on its own, sparing us the possibility that she be granted any real power by a confused group of undiscerning people who were seduced by her beauty pageant strut and pseudo-Annie Oakley bravado.

I'll bet you just luuuuuuv that Hillary though, don't you? Now there is one non-ego having heavyweight, all right. And you don't have to worry about a beauty pageant strut from that one.

Can we hear the 'perpetuating' lecture again?

I'm not a Hillary fan, and never have been, but I'm pleased with the work she's doing at the State Dept. No, Hillary isn't going to inspire adolescent fantasies ala Palin, but apparently her intellect is pretty threatening to those same Palin wankerboys.

There is obviously something very threatening about Palin as well, given the amount of effort spent tearing her and her family down.

Seriously, if you have an opinion on that, I'll listen respectfully.
They have spent 500K of their own money on lawyers defending her from ethics charges and ALL of those charges have been dismissed. What family can continue do that indefinitely?

This is a strategy by her haters. They will keep her tied up in litigation until she has no resources. She's been driven from office by this strategy and yet to the sore winners that's still not enough.

What cracks me up is the constant ranting that she isn't viable, but yet they must continue to destroy her to ensure she isn't viable. Most people who read this stuff can smell the fear the left has of her. It's OK to be scared people.

Let me also say I don't endorse her and wouldn't vote for her. The guttural hatred of her that is a bit frightening. From the things I've heard and read from the left in America if I were her I'd be concerned for my family.
