The absentee rate is in red. The two black dotted lines provide a context for understanding the significance of the absentee rate. The lower dotted line shows the median value for all Members of Congress in that time period. The upper dotted line shows the 90th percentile. A Member who approaches the upper dotted line is in the worst 10 percent of Congress.

I dunno. Could he really have been that effective at his job when he was campaigning? BTW I didn't start this argument so don't bother throwing McCain being on the road back at me.

At least Palin has the gumption to resign. I wish more politicians would do so on a regular basis.

I think he graduated from that great Alaskan school of philosophy named MOYFB. I also think that he has a cool door mat like mine.

Of course I know and using the IRS as a personal weapon to "investigate" your political enemies is about as low as you can go.

Not that they've released much of them - apparently they're having particular trouble with emails that copied her citizen husband on state business. Ask any IT guy how silly this is that they can't track emails to/from their system. So don't mind if I leave that bubble up there a little past the holiday weekend, before you go about bursting it. 'Course, maybe she's just hitting the Appalachian Trail~
I thought that got squared away when the Tennessee Democratic State Representatives' son hacked her email account before the election?? Now there is something that the FBI is actually prosecuting.

And Alaska is the most corrupt state in the Union? WOW! I guess Palin easily outdistances the buffoon of the decade and former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.

If there was a scandal, it will drop.
Since Palin didn't run from other scandals, either the mysterious rumored scandal is monumental (in which case it will still drop even if she resigned) or she's not leaving due to scandal.

(Incidentally, Theo: just because Stevens conviction was overturned doesn't mean he didn't violate the law - which he did; but unlike torturers in the executive branch, the judicial system is built around the means, not the ends: In any event, I never saw his witch-hunt as that big a deal).

IF Palin was trying to launch herself into some politically larger capacity (i.e. national office) why would she do this resignation in such a way as to hide it in the news cycle?

My take is that she's decided to be entirely selfish and pursue some sort of money deal with a media company (one would assume FoxNews) and abandon the whole difficulty of running a state.

We'll see how it shakes out, because I'm sure we've not heard the last of this.

I stand by what I said before. The apparatchiks are entirely too easy to see in how they are dealing with her resignation.

By the way, those won't help you if the Executive Branch declares you an enemy combatant...

Palin (possibly) guilty of any wrongdoing? Never! She's an angelic figure who has come to save the GOP from itself. And she announced on Facebook that she is pursuing a "higher calling" than actually completing her obligation to the Alaskan people. I'm thinking she's gonna become one of them fancy televangelists with her very own megachurch and all sorts of televised miracles.... all while wearing Naughty Monkey Fuck Me Pumps up there at the pulpit. Should be wildly profitable! Invest now! Ground floor opportunity!

I don't think there is a person here who doesn't complain about an absentee politician neglecting their constituents and responsibilities during a campaign.

Aren't the people actually served better by having a politician step down so they have full time representation by another?

Should we as a taxpayers be paying somebody to campaign, and furthermore what if they don't represent your party views? You're involuntarily contributing to their reelection.

Lastly, when running for higher office, if they lose their campaign they will just fall back to the elected position they held previously. In this instance if they win or lose they've already declared they don't want to represent you so why would you want them to? They have nothing to lose.

You're assuming she's actually running for national office. The most likely outcome is Helio's call that Rupert Murdoch smells money and he's recruiting her into the Fair & Balanced Squad. But I do like my televangelist prognostication. Sort of an understated Tammy Fay without the over-the-top transvestite makeup. You know, "discreet" conjobbery. The Palins, after all, are self-impressed grifters who are bored with Alaska. They've seen how many suckers down in the lower 48 luv 'em to day-eth, and they're ready for the BIG payday.

No way man, Obama loves me. Otherwise why would he allow me to help pay for all the Banker's mistakes.
