Grocery stores were opposed because their sales of 3.2 beer will decline on Sundays. One transplants to CO I know was unaware that they had been buying 3.2 beer in the grocery stores for years.
Many Liquor stores were opposed to the legislation previously because they liked having Sunday off. They got scared because the grocery stores have been lobbying to sell full strength stuff (which would likely put many liquor stores out of business).
I heard on NPR a month or so ago an interview with a liquor store owner. She acknowlegded that the convenience of picking up groceries and beer/liquor at the same place would put her out of business. Which made me think... these are laws that cost me time, money, and convenience in order to keep these people in business.
That kind of pissed me off. Someone making a living off of my inconvenience. But then thought, I go to the liquor store way more than I go to the grocery. I would be real pissed if I had to stand in that line just to buy a 6-pack.
For those who like the new law, you can thank-
