Seeking Public Comment on reservoir recreation in Estes Park

All,
I know this doesn't involve a river or kayaking, but thought some of you would be interested just the same. We have moved into the second round of public comment on the proposed recreation improvements at Lake Estes, Marys Lake, East Portal Reservoir and Common Point up in Estes Park. If you'd like to learn more, or have comments you'd like us to hear, we're having an open house next Thursday, Dec. 6 in Estes. Maybe we'll see you there! Press release follows.

Best,
Kara

Reclamation and Estes Valley Rec and Parks Holding Open House on Recreation Areas

Comments will be accepted on recreation plans at Lake Estes, Marys Lake, East Portal and Common Point.

The Bureau of Reclamation and Estes Valley Recreation and Parks District will host a public open house as part of the second round in a public process to collect comments on recreation and resource management at Lake Estes, Marys Lake, and East Portal reservoirs as well as at Common Point recreation area. Comments will be accepted for the preliminary alternatives for Reclamation's Resource Management Plan as well as for the accompanying Environmental Assessment. Public comment should be provided in writing at the open house or by mail/email by December 21, 2007.

The public open house will be held in Estes Park at Town Hall in Hearing Room at 170 McGregor Ave on Thursday, December 6. It will run from 4:00 in the afternoon until 8:00 in the evening. The exhibits displayed and comment form will be available on the project webpage after the meeting.

The Resource Management Plan, or "RMP," will guide Estes Valley Recreation and Parks District in their implementation and management of the four properties. The Environmental Assessment will evaluate what, if any, environmental impacts might come from the suggestions for recreation improvement and management described in the RMP.

Lake Estes, Marys Lake, East Portal reservoirs and the Common Point recreation area are part of the Colorado-Big Thompson water project owned by the Bureau of Reclamation. Estes Valley Recreation and Parks District manages recreation for Reclamation at all four sites.

For more information on the RMP or the open house, please visit www.estesvalleyrecreation.com/RMP.htm or contact Kara Lamb at (970) 962-4326.
