I listen to a lot of talk radio because my commute is almost an hour each way- most of it conservative. Some I appreciate (Peter Boyles, Mike Rosen); while others are too much - devoid of any real debate and consisting soley of sound bites that obsfucate the facts of a particular issue.
I think reviving the Fairness Doctrine is a waste of time. Now, there was a an issue a few years ago where religious radio station owners were deliberately buying bandwidth near NPR stations in Texas and blasting out religious music with enough wattage to drown out the NPR signal - just to deliberately squelch a small progressive voice in backward-ass religious areas...like Layton, Utah. That's wrong, IMO.
To be sure, Conservatives 'own' AM radio (hmm...a 100 year old communication medium with limitations to fidelity; subject to interference & static....gotta love metaphors, huh?). One thing I notice is that Liberal talk shows do a hell of a lot less call screening. Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, and Tom Hartmann all take calls from Republicans & are happy to have a spirited debate on-air. Your
Messiahs; guys like Hannity, Rush and Glenn Beck, never
allow detractors to call get through their producers - it's a total echo chamber.
Why is that?
PS: Rush is alive & well and still on the radio & not in prison for prescription shopping; in part because some dirty liberal folks from the ALCU helped protect his privacy.
