Having lived with the only working form of "socialized medicine" the U.S. has, the military, And having been hospitalized outside of the military as well. I will take the military system anyday!!! You get sick or injured... you go in and get taken care of...(period).
Please keep in mind that this is the only "socialized" system i have experience with so it is the only one I can talk about.
Anybody who believes that medicine in the U.S. is not BIG BUISNESS is kidding themselves. I have been a nurse for almost 20 years now. both in the military (Army) and in the private sector. And i can tell you (i currently work in Marketing in the health care feild) that nothing outside of the ER is done without cost/profit in mind. And the ER only have to treat any life threatening event.
Health Care is big Buisness period.
Side note... i personally believe that as long as our politicians receive free healthcare for life (even if only serving one term), we the people will never have our intrest in healthcare "represented" by them. along those lines the average salary in the U.S. for 2009 was $40,711 while "representitves" made $243,000. And I recently read (sorry forgot the source...but it was a .gov site) that 95% of our congressmen were millionaires. Do you really think they are protecting the average American's best interest?
All i am saying is that if you want to change the system put people into place that deal with the same issues we do. starting with a pay cut and bennifits cut for our politicians. (not that i could live of $40k a year
