Romney out ,what now

Romney quits, who do the conservatives support now?The Limbaugh types hate McCain,do Romney's people go to Huckabee?Mc Cain and Huckabee have been buddying up,do they go as a ticket trying to use Huckabee to add ' religos' to McCain?Does that ticket try to play conservative populists strong on defense versus Hillary;s corporatism/Does Obama kick thier ass?

Maybe some independent emerges,how

Bloomberg will run only if Hillary looks like she'll get the nomination I believe.

With Romney out, it's McCain's nomination. End of story.

I've found the Republican infighting fascinating. For whatever reason, the talk show circuit was supporting Romney. Well, there is a sorta reason - historically, ex-Governors make the best presidents. Not always, but another big majority through history. Senators rarely do well.

Now it's left to decide whether the Republicans who dislike McCain will stay home in November. If Hillary is the nominee, they'll be out for McCain. I gaw-uhn-tay it.

McCain is a liberal Republican. At least by today's standards. He's realistic about immigration (it'd cost more to round em up and send em home than it would to give em a surcharge and make em pay back taxes). He's anti-torture (the only one besides Ron Paul from that side of the fence, thank god - our next president, assuming they all keep their word about torture and Guantanamo, will end the practice of torture that didn't prevent a single attack on US soil or otherwise stop a "major" attack). He's probably going to let end the tax breaks of the Bush years in some fashion or other - he's a freakin realist where the deficit is concerned.

Yeah, he can get angry. I think a guy kept in a bamboo cage for 5 years is entitled to some loss of decorum where his temper is concerned. Yeah, he has said that the US could be in the Middle East in some form or another for 100 years. I'm against it, but there is a pragmatic argument to be made for it in the same way the US was in Germany for 50-60 years after WW2. Yeah, he's made jokes about bombing Iran, but I don't take those seriously, and you shouldn't take the jokes seriously either (the policy I do take seriously, and McCain more than anyone seems to understand how these rotations have weakened our armed forces over the past 5 years).

If he can unite more Republicans, it bodes very poorly for the democrats, because he can start his preparation for November now, and he can save money between now and the Fall. The democracts cannot, and look to be dealing with a campaign funding war (that obama is currently winning) through the end of March.

McCain is also THE most likely Republican to get independents to vote Republian.

Romney took one for the party today (and for his own wallet). The only thing more a Republican can hope for is for Hillary to win the nomination.

I think he is a smart business man and instead of pissing his money away, he is saving it for the next go around in 4 years. Now he can look like the good guy, step a side and try and keep the party together. Probably good for the Republicans. Now they can save their war chest for the fight against who ever the Dem's put up.

I'd still like to see a Paul vs Kucinich (sp) race. Too bad it will never happen.

Did you hear some of the garage that Romney spewed during his withdrawal speech? I don't have a link to the speech, but just heard a few clips from it. That guy is scary. It's funny how much farther to right he sounded after he was no longer in the race.

I think Jon Stewart's response to Romney pretty much says it all, "Fuck you"

Yeah, I saw his speech on the daily show. He said, in no uncertain terms, that a vote for a Democrat is a vote to surrender to Al Qaida. And he should be ashamed of himself. I too agree with John Stewart.

How sad the party of limited government and trusting the people to solve problems for themselves has become. How bankrupt of ideas.
