damn gh, feel free to go through every post with a fine tooth comb waiting to pounce on any misused word.
so i used the word "many" you used "several"...WTF??? get a life..or stop pissing in my bowl of cherries.
no wonder the Mtn Buzz is full of MANY salty discharges
Ok so what about the whole "message that it sends" argument. Though i am not a huge fan of the statement and wonder somehow if that statement is most often used by people to say I dont like this. But....
None the less do you think that Carmellos fans kind of look at it an say, Missing 15 games is not that big of a deal and yeah he may have to pay a fine but he can afford it in the end. But if he were faced to pay jail time or something like that then maybe his younger fans might get the point (by the way I am not sure that his offence was serious enough to warant jail time.)
To me this whole deal paints a picture (or sends the message) that atheletes are above the law. It also encourages intimidation while in competition which lowers the level of play. Yeah fights in hockey games can be entertaining but all in all it lowers the level of play.
The exception to this debate is boxing and UFC.... and professional wrestling ofcourse. Were fighting is part of the sport of it but once the boundaries are stepped over I think that they should have legal ramifications as well... Can anyone remeber if Tyson had criminal charges for biting Holyfields ear?
I did the jury duty thing a while back on a murder trial and I had a buddy fight a felony case for hitting a guy in a bar. From what I have seen I think that the cheap shot that mello took, in a bar scene, would be treated seriously by the courts, especially if its on video. I think in hockey that the fights never boil over into the crowd. Well rarely anyway. Basketball fights seems to be in and with the audience lately. Thats seems to be part of the problem. Whether it detracts from the game or not, I guess that depends on what you went there for. I have never seen a fight that didnt attract a crowd so I assume people like to watch them.
I think you can get extremely frustrated playing either sport and people taking cheap shots. Seeing someone about 4 feet from the boards getting nailed in the back is a scenario that makes me a little crazy. I dont want to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair. At that point I would rather see two people square off and take care of it old school.

Pro basketball players are not immune from the law. If one of the playeres who was hit wanted to press charges, I'm sure they could. In lieu of that however, the police or DA are not likely to make an issue of it since no one was badly hurt. Anthony was suspended for 15 games which means he won't get paid for those games. That will be over an $800,000 hit. That's pretty substansial.
Hey psu96, did you say "GOON" for the Avs?! Bertuzzi skated up behind Steve Moore, unprevoked, in the waning moments of a loss and sucker punched him, then drove him, head first, into the ice. That injury ended Moore's carrer. The "GOON" here is Bertuzzi. Someone shouold go through your posts with a fine toothed comb to make sure you get your facts straight.
SO that could be the worst Idea I have ever heard. I agree that it is a bummer that so many athletes have acted out as they have, but thier punishment does not mean they are above the law. Carmello had to pay a redicoulouse amount of money wich no regular person could afford and he was restricted the right to enjoy his prefession. If anything for a fight he got screwed, how many regular citizens do you know would have to throw down a half a million dollars and be denied work for 13 weeks for hitting some guy. I mean at school there are tons of fights and the worst that happens to the kids is they go home for the day. All in all not a good idea.
PS I am a huge nuggets fan so of course I am gonna side the opposite.
