A lot of good points from both sides on this thread.I grew up fantasizing about being some Rambo, but from the youngest age always took the other side, played cowboys and indians but wanted to be the indian kicking some cowboy's ass.A lot of you might be too young they really bombarded us with Westerns in the 60'S AND 70's.....anyway what the hell was my point.oh yeah I think i would have benefited from the military's discipline and was born to repel out of helicopters and brawl hand to hand, but could never get behind the politics.they might ask me to kill the ' indians' of whatever situation. lost train of thought sorry ... basically it's your upbringing /what you are taught as much as your experiences that shape your mentality

You can expose yourself[ hopefully not in a trench coat wearin' kind of way } to other world cultures by simply going wherever and taking things on the fly no tours or reservations or any of that bullshit..

The only repudiation I can offer is certainly weak (no doubt because I am disappointed by the plain hypocrisy of certain appointments). First, 12 out of 114 positions (as indicated in the linked article) is not horrible (but it could be a slippery slope indicator). Second, sometimes the best person for the job may necessitate hypocrisy. In the abstract, I can allow that in something like the 11 percent of cases I see here. Out of the abstract and into specifics, some of these appointments border on disheartening, but not quite.
