McCain is destroying his honor to win an election.

If the man who felt it so urgent to put the nation first by suspending his campaign means what he says, he'll speak out about this minority from among his supporters. It needs to be done.
It is very disturbing stuff.

I understand "firing up" the base. That's what rallies are all about. It's a giant pep rally for partisans. But the kind of extremism that is erupting at these McCain/Palin rallies goes way beyond being "fired up." A responsible candidate would call the crazies on their craziness. It seems to me at this point that McCain is so desperate to realize his dream of living in the White House, that he's willing to look the other way. Very sad. I could have voted for the guy in 2000. The McCain of today is NOT the McCain of 2000. Ruthless ambition has changed him.

Fascism Fascism Fascism

Kevin Drum's Blog is appropriate to this thread: "The modern GOP is the party of Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, Karl Rove, George Bush, Dick Cheney, John McCain, and Sarah Palin. It's not just off the rails. It doesn't even know where the rails are anymore."

Violent fascism is a real danger where otherwise thinking people pledge loyalty to a failed political party, where the party leadership plays toward the totalitarian tendencies of its loyalists' conservative morality in order to bolster their own fleeting power, and where the party loyalists maintain loyalty regardless of the fact that these loyal followers' conservative ideologies contradict the emptying ideology and actions of their increasingly Machiavellian leaders.

Now, please explain again why the GOP, as personified by McCain/Palin and exemplified by the Iraq War and the Next Great Crash, gets your vote.

Full props to McCain for realizing there's a limit to what he can allow his supporters to chant...
He just snatched the microphone out the hands of a woman who began her question with, "I'm scared of Barack Obama... he's an Arab terrorist..."
"No, no ma'am," he interrupted. "He's a decent family man with whom I happen to have some disagreements."
Still running an ad stating Obama's friends are terrorists, but he redeemed a minimal amount of honor for me today.
"self-aggrandizing jackass" - it says it right on the label

Yep, McCain FINALLY tried to calm the rabid dogs. It was a start. I would like to see more of this before I'm willing to acknowledge that he is making an honest effort to inject some reason back into his campaign. At this point I remain skeptical.
