Man pulls gun on fellow boaters

http://http://www.aspendailynews.com/article_21201

Does anyone have any other information on this? Luckily no one was hurt! Sad to see this happen on one of our favorite playgrounds.

Here's the working link: Aspen Daily News | Aspen, Colorado

That is serious bullshit. That son of a bitch is lucky that someone who was intoxicated or mentally unstable wasn't packing heat as well. Pulling a gun on people for stopping for lunch is weak. That guy needs an ass whippin.

This (and many other reasons) is exactly why I pack heat. People aren't so tough when you give them a little taste of their own medicine.

Many years ago, an old boss of mine advised me that if I ever pulled a gun on someone, I damn well better be ready to pull the trigger and live with the consequences for the rest of my life .
My guess is that if 2 guns were present in this encounter, someone would have ended up wounded or dead.
The only reason to have a gun on the river would be for dealing with wildlife, and I don't mean humans.

Flame away, folks!

cgm, you should get called for jury duty and see what the law does to people who escalate a situation instead of just leaving when that option is available. i think you will find it illuminating, i know i did. The guy screwed up and now faces serious charges and no one was injured. I would say that it ended pretty much the best way it could under the circumstances. sounds like the sheriff is one responsive dude, most would have waited for him downriver.

um... yeah... I'm a guide up here on the North Platte and there is an old mountain man/trapper (for real) who guides for me occasionally and he always has a gun sitting beside him. Clients are a little put off sometimes but we assure them that it's for rattlers, lions, or crazy folks.
I had a guy, this year, from lower CO threaten me and a high profile client while we were wading way out in the sticks just north of the CO border... he said if he saw us on the river he'd throw rocks at us. Needless to say I have a responsibility to protect my clients and when I showed him that I had something in my pack that was no match for rocks he quickly vanished down river. But we also deal with ranchers who shoot all around us for shock and fright. Had a guy 7 years ago shoot a hole in a drift boat while clients were in it.
Guns on the river are questionable, and I don't want to make this political, but we really can't say for sure if the other party had a gun there would be a gun fight. We don't know what would have happened. I'd like to think the Jones guy would have put his down pretty quick. Hopefully this is an isolated incident and won't happen again. People need to realize that this is our land... not yours and not mine. Also that dogs aren't everyones best friends.
I will say that packing heat from pumphouse to radium or even del-rio is a bit questionable... I've never heard of much trouble coming from this section. All I ask is that the gun-haters don't use this for political purposes... let's try to keep politics out of boating.
