TT - I agree that the presence of US military medical folks would be an irritant, given our longstanding, imbalanced approach to this conflict. While we should play a leadership role, Arabs/Muslims should play a visible, street-level role.
This war is was instigated by Muslim fundamentalists and made much worse by Old Testament fundamentalists. We may condemn or condone from afar, but I think the insights of a "local" philosopher are useful. It would be nice if the warring fundies would contemplate these words:
"Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God." (Matthew 5:19)
"Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword, shall perish with the sword." (Matthew 26:52)
"Blessed are the Meek for they shall inherit the earth." (Mt.5.5)
"I say unto you love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which desoitefully use and persecute you, that you may be children of your father which is in heaven." (Matthew 5:44-45)
