Help save the Fraser River

Take Action!

Tell the Army Corps of Engineers to include river protections as permit requirements for Denver Water's Moffat project.

We're on the verge of a major victory for the Fraser - help us cross the finish line!

The Fraser is an outstanding wild trout river and key tributary to the Upper Colorado that has been impacted by years of diversions. Currently, Denver Water is taking about 60 percent of the natural flows of the Fraser to supply water to the Front Range. They’ve proposed to take another 15 percent of the river through an expansion of their Moffat Tunnel diversion. That could put the river on the brink of disaster.

For the last 8 years, Trout Unlimited has been working hard to make sure that approval of Denver’s Moffat expansion project doesn’t happen unless the Fraser River and its tributaries are protected and their degraded condition improved. Recently, we reached an agreement with Denver Water and Grand County that provides for long-term monitoring and adaptive management to protect and enhance river conditions. Under the agreement Denver Water is providing both dollars and water to help meet the river's needs. Now we need the US Army Corps of Engineers to make this agreement a requirement of the Moffat project's federal permit - so that we can lock in these important protections.
Please take a few minutes to write the Corps submit your comments to..

The Fraser is an awesome stretch of whitewater when it flows. It is sad that this will be even less often thanks to Denver Water. The other issue is that boaters are less likely to fight for a river that they can't run because there is NO legal put-in access. If we don't have access to boat the river, then we don't care so much about "boatable" flows. Having said that, I will still submit my comments.
