"Dear Lord, thank you for this Thanksgiving holiday. And for all the material possessions we have and enjoy. And for letting us white people kill all the Indians and steal their tribal lands. And stuff ourselves like pigs, even though children in Asia are being napalmed."
-- Christina Ricci as Wendy Hood in "The Ice Storm", a Thanksgiving move set in 1973

I haven't seen this one yet, but the movie-buff receptionist at our office sent out this quote and I liked it. I put it in my Netflix queue so I can watch it over the holidays while I eat a turkey and drink a six-pack.

Special thanks to Ture for bringing everybody down. Wassamatta U.?

I get it, Ture is going home for the holiday, where he will endure the constant nagging of his mom:

"When are you getting a real job?"
"You had such potential when you were a boy"

And such for 4 straight days.

TroutBobber, that Thanksgiving quote is hilarious. I didn't mean it as a downer. You can come bobbing for brown trout at my place anytime.

The Turkey popped out of the oven
and rocketed in to the air;
It knocked every plate off the table
and partly demolished a chair.
It ricocheted into a corner
and burst with a deafening boom,
Then splattered all over the kitchen,
completely obscuring the room.
It stuck to the walls and the windows,
it totally coated the floor,
There was turkey attached to the ceiling,
where there had never been turkey before..
It blanketed every appliance,
it smeared every saucer and bowl;
There wasn't a way I could stop it;
that turkey was out of control.
I scraped and I scraped with displeasure
and thought with chagrin as I mopped,
That I would never again stuff a turkey
with popcorn that hadn't been popped.
