Hello all,
We driving from San Fran to Guatemala. We have five weeks. We are looking for any information paddlers have. We are mellow class V boaters. We are looking for the must hit rivers anywhere along the route. We would love to do some overnighting adventure boating. Cool towns, shuttle information, people to contact, places to stay, sites, runes, anything. Also... Do we need 4 wheel drive.

Rocky Contos has written some really good guide books describing rivers all along your route. I'd get copies of those as they are full of helpful info, check out

Sounds like an epic trip! If I had to pick one place to see in Guatemala it would be Semuc Champey, fucking beautiful! Antigua is a cool city, we really liked it. Lake Atitlan is amazing. My wife and I spent 3 weeks there, if you have any questions feel free to give me a shout. Two four eight-770-4178
Best regards

Sierrarios is more for Mexico, try Mayan White Water for Chiapas and Guatemala/Hond./Bz/ES.....yeah Lanquin is a semi-must see for Semuc Champey,SemucLanquin,Kam Ba cave, and the rivers. The Retiro is a great place to stay right on the Lanquin III/IV(V+) .There are some rafting operations for the nearby Cahabon3-4.The Oxec has/is class V,otherwise Wrong Way to Capetown is the hair rapid of the area.Rio Sauce by El Estor is V- and it's lower reaches 'el boqueron is easy water but a spectacular tight walled in tropical gorge,If you were driving to El Estor you. would be along the Polochic which is hard IV and has some awesome gorges.Pac coast has many runs from above Tapachula down into El Salvador.
