Great day for gun rights!

The supreme court rules that the second amendment protects an individual's right to own a handgun in his home!

Quote:
Answering a 127-year old constitutional question, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to have a gun, at least in one’s home.
Quote:
the Court nullified two provisions of the city of Washington’s strict 1976 gun control law: a flat ban on possessing a gun in one’s home, and a requirement that any gun — except one kept at a business — must be unloaded and disassembled or have a trigger lock in place. The Court said it was not passing on a part of the law requiring that guns be licensed. It said that issuing a license to a handgun owner, so the weapon can be used at home, would be a sufficient remedy for the Second Amendment violatrion of denying any access to a handgun.
The decision was 5-4.
Yay!

More great quotes in favor of FREEDOM TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM PSYCHO's!

Quote:
“the most natural reading of ‘keep Arms’ in the Second Amendment is to “have weapons.”
Quote:
“The prefatory clause does not suggest that preserving the militia was the only reason Americans valued the ancient right; most undoubtedly thought it even more important for self-defense and hunting.”
Quote:
“Whatever the reason, handguns are the most popular weapon chosen by Americans for self-defense in the home, and a complete prohibition of their use is invalid.”
There are some points to comfort the whiney, anti-gun, bleeding uterus types:

Quote:
“Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.”
(I'll have to wait a while longer before I can set up an AT-4 in the driveway...)

Quote:
“We also recognize another important limitation on the right to keep and carry arms. Miller said, as we have explained, that the sorts of weapons protected were those ‘in common use at the time.’ 307 U. S., at 179.”
So probably no .50-cal sniper rifles, either.

I would like to say, from the bottom of my heart, Rosie O'Donnel and you're moms against guns crusade. Suck it down! Choke on it! You lose!

Well, at the takeout, I like to have a 9mm, just for tradition's sake.
I have a nice little 5-shot 38 special Taurus something or other for the girls in my life to familiarize themselves on.

I don't count .22s as 'guns' really, so I don't include those.

I have two pride pieces of my collection, an actual M1 Garand used during the war, and a 1952 lever-action Marlin .3030 that my dad gave to me.

I feel the urge to go out in the driveway and bust a few into the air in celebration. But that would be irrisponsible. I only fire off rounds for no good reason at the takeout.

I too own a rifle. Shot all dad's ammo in his gun cabinet from .22 to .243 to 12 gauge by age 12.
Everything in moderation... especially moderation.

I am with ya but mine is a traditional 1911 style .45. I do however have a nice .45 Sig for sale.
It wouldnt be a good equipment thread without someone trying to sell something so I just wanted to stick with tradition.
