What Matts says.....clean and lube it each time you shoot. It might be a little dry out of the box....but I'd be more suspicious of the aftermarket mag. I was just by the gun store and they also felt that Rugers tend to be picky when it comes to aftermarket magazines.

If I'm having trouble with a gun feeding on the range, I bring a can of barrel scrubber spray and a can of air ......like the kind they sell for cleaning computer key boards. (A friend of mine swears that brake cleaner is the same thing but cheaper.) I spray it down and relube it and it usually fixes the problem. If your still having trouble with it feeding, using factory magazines, then I would take it back to where you bought it and have their gunsmith look at it.

Cheap ammo can screw with a gun......especially really old stuff. Try a box or two of good stuff, like Federal or Winchester. Good Luck.

I'm going to give it a full cleaning and lube, and see what happens. The aftermarket mag had trouble the first batch, but seemed better the second time around. I think the factory one jammed once. Ammo was brand-name, either Remington or Winchester hollow points. I'm thinking about returning the Butler Creek mag, and getting this one: TI25 MACHINED ALUMINUM STEEL LIP MAGAZINE FOR RUGER 10/22 by: Tactical It is expensive, but you can micro adust the fit with an allen wrench, and you can also take it apart to clean. The composite one is cheaper, but they are out of stock. Maybe Butler Creek's customer service can send me a new mag that would fit better, or a way to adjust theirs.

Matt- I'll expirement with half loaded vs. full loaded mag. Or maybe the first rounds needed to break in the springs.

Yes, you can get a 30 round magazine for it too, I think. They are like $700 to start for this rifle, I think.

Check this out. If you are reeeeally bored and have money burning a hole in your pocket, you can modify your 10/22 to look like an AK:

Can't you buy SKS rifles (semi auto AK) for cheap? My brother has one, but I haven't seen many around here. Maybe that is because he lives in the Confederate States of America.

Have any of you guys used a red-dot sight? What is the advantage to this type of sight vs. a scope?

whitelightening dot vs. scope is easy
for long range targets i would go with the scope unless you are wanting to snipe some shit at dark? the dot in the daytime would be more pistol needed were you look more at your target than through your sights. the advantage would be you would hardy have to have any practice to hit targets with pistol laser. i hve 2 3x9 scopes. one for my semi auto 18 rd marlin .22 and one thats .22 bolt action marlin. as long as you get them sighted in correctly; they are blast. long long shots is what im talking about. nothing like knocking beer bottles out of trees at 200 yd or the head off a dog at same.

Hey Mike.....a red dot scope and laser sites are two different animals. A red dot scope does not emit a red dot on the target.......the dot stays in the scope for only your eye to see.

Chief advantage is keeping both eyes open while sighting with the scope so you can concentrate on what is going on around you. Think urban warfare. Quicker sighting but not as accurate as open sites or a scope. One disadvantage is it runs on special flat batteries and is easily forgotten on..... so the batteries are dead next time you go to shoot it.......I have one on my Bushmaster Bullpup and find it entertaining but not that accurate.......and I tend to forget to shut it off which is really annoying in my old age.....
