I just bought my 10/22 yesterday, got the carbine model. It is pretty sweet. I got the Butler Creek "hot lips" 25 round magazine. I am not sure if this is a big deal, but there is some play between the mag and the rifle. Like you can wiggle it some. Is that normal?

Now I need to find a place to shoot, and learn how to clean it. Maybe I'll drive up in the BLM this afternoon and look for a safe spot...

Rugers are pretty close tolerence guns. I'd have to see it to really give you any good advice on fit. Best bet is to try it out and see how it feeds. If it likes to jam......then there is a good chance it's too loose.

I have Ruger .40 cal Police Carbine (rifle) that uses a 20 round mag. I bought an after market mag for it which fit kind of loose and liked to jam. I don't think I ever shot a full load through it without it jamming. I ended up tossing it in frustration. The beauty of this gun is that it's magazines interchange with my Ruger semi-auto pistol. Talk about a fun and accurate gun to shoot...........

Now you guys gots me a Jone'in....Screw Work.....I'm goin shoot'in tomarrow.....

Shoot with open sights until you get used to it and if you feel you need it to place your shots a bit better put a scope on.. Most plinkin and inside of 100 yd shots you do not need a scope and for most it is best to get used to the gun and action before adding a scope into the mix.

Also if you hunt rabbits or other running game you will find that it is much easier to shoot open sights rather than try to find running game in a scope.

No need to spend too much on optics for a 22.. For my LR and LTR applications I spend a bunch 2-3k on a scope but for a duce duce a couple of hundred will be plenty.

Nice gun enjoy..

Dan hit it on the head with decocking levers on the double single autos there is no possible reason that one of these newer auto's will discharge without pulling the trigger. Even if you choose to walk around with one in the tube.

20 with a .308 you got a DPMS?? I want a dpms trick with the 26" barrel.. Top her with nightforce.. One day..

I took out my new 10/22 yesterday and tore up some beer cans and an empty bleach bottle. Now I need to figure out how to disassemble and clean the thing.

Also, Matt Solomon who used to come around the Buzz every once in a while is now officially a firearms dealer. It sounds like he can order all kinds of stuff below retail while he is building up his customer base. Maybe he can chime in on here. I don't really know him well, but I've e-mailed back and forth with him, and have some friends in common, and have heard he's a good guy, and a good boater. Anyways, he's got a site at www.alpinearms.com.

I'm back! ... and yes, I've got a FFL.

Hey folks! I know I've been offline for a while - Paramedic school is 2 months from completion...

WhiteLightning hit the nail on the head. I got my FFL this summer. I am doing background checks for firearm transfers and also have 2-3 distributors I'm working with for purchases (if you're on the Front Range, I can ship stuff to your local dealer). Firearms pricing I get isn't always the best, but it's definitely worth checking, as I'll at least tell you what you "should" be paying, so give me a call.

PRICING:
~ from now through Dec 31, 2008: all firearms purchases will be COST plus $25 - including your background check, if picking up in Eagle.

~ Transfers are $25.

The website is still being built, but should be up and running in the next couple of weeks. It won't be an online store, more of a catalog and information portal, but it will give you an idea for what I can get and such. Just call/email me what you want and I'll get you a prince before ordering, product arrives within the week.

Have a fun fall.... Talk to you soon....

Ruger 10/22 Questions:

1. How often is it "normal" for it to jam? I shot mine out of the box on Sunday and it jammed several times. Mostly with the hot lips high cap magazine (that I mentioned seemed a little loose), but once with the factory mag too.

2. Cleaning: Any tips? Do you totally disassemble everything every time? I assume you should clean it every time between use? I have a pistol cleaning kit with the rod, the cloth squares, solvent, oil. What else should I buy for the 22? Another rod, or one of those rope snakes?

3. Mags: Anyone used tactical innovations mags? They seem like they might be nicer

gotta go, ride is here, more later

WL good luck with the cleaning. it shouldn't probably jam right out of the box. that is not good news. i would take it back and get a new one. if theres problem w/ the mechanism now; i would hate to have to see it once it really needs clean.

how many jams per clip load

WL-

1- Get a new magazine! Every so often, rifles will jam right out of the box. You've probably got a weak spring in the mag and just need a new one. Have you tried to load it half way? Does it jam then?

2- Keep it clean! I try to clean after every time I shoot.

3- Keep moving parts lub'd.

I'm not a gunsmith, but experience says to give this a try first...
