FYI- They just scheduled the NM State Senate Conservation Committee hearing for this Thursday - attending and encouraging others to attend may help stop the destructive diversion plans for the Gila. I pasted an e-mail I received from the Center for Biological Diversity below which has the information. If you want to learn just how stupid the diversion idea is just Google news on "Gila Diversion".
Hope to see you there.
Please join me and other Center for Biological Diversity activists this Thursday, Feb. 26 for a Gila River hearing at the state capitol.
As you likely have already heard, a large and incredibly expensive diversion project now threatens to take Gila River water and pump it over the Continental Divide to farms and urban areas. But this diversion would be absurdly expensive -- costing us taxpayers more than $1 billion and causing serious damage to our stateís wildlife and outdoor economy that depend on this precious resource.
At the hearing, three Gila River protection bills -- S.B. 542, S.B. 455 and S.B. 461 -- will be up for votes, and if we aim to save this river from continued exploitation, itís essential that we make a strong showing in support. For more information, check out protectthegila.org
. And note: Hearings can change, so please check this schedule
or email me directly for updates.
