1. No the dam is NOT vulnerable to catastrophic failure from a OKC style bombing. 5000lbs of ANFO detonated on the road is NOWHERE NEAR CAPABLE of making a crater than would allow spillover erosion failure of the Dillon Dam. You need at least 30X that much... which is bigger than any conventional weapon ever made... multiple semi trucks at once... it's the size of a smaller TACTICAL NUCLEAR explosion! If Osama gets that much kaboom, he won't waste it on a petty target like Dillon when there are places like Washington DC, NYC, LA, and the Hoover Dam.

2. In history, only one attempt to destroy a major earthen dam. In WWII the Allies attempted to destroy the Sorpe earthen dam in Germany using modified depth charges with 10,000lbs of HIGH EXPLOSIVE (equivalent to 50,000lbs of truck bomb ANFO) that would sink into the water to direct the explosion efficiently. The dam was hit by two of these bombs but did not go. Two concrete dams attacked a similar manner were destroyed.

3. It wouldn't be hard for Denver Water to ban large trucks and put in tire strips that could be activated if a truck tried to defy the ban.

4. Denver Water only has the authority to close the road in case of an emergency. This situation does NOT meet that definition.

Fuckin cheeze dick fascists.

No offense to Coloradans, but the attitude that private parties can "own" the water and your right to float over it is part of the reason I left after a winter.

Ok there was a girl, several ounces of questionable substances and a dog involved but that is another story.

Funny sometimes here the trophy home owners call to complain about trespassing and the sheriff has to show them the high water mark and explain it is all public to right there.

DNC to blame

Hate to break the news but this is being done in anticipation of the Dem Conv next month. Watch, when the charade is over the ban will be lifted.

I'm confused as to how a dam failure would threaten Vail...

If the dam failed, the sudden movement of water downstream would cause a massive updraft in the air which would then move over the mountains. If this were to happen, there is at least a 10% chance that the residents of Vail would get cold. For this reason, the Department of Homeland Security has been closely watching all fur-coat industry bigshots for signs of suspicious activities.

Whoa, that's a scary thought. At least I know there's a reason for closing the road now.

Where's Derek Zoolander when you need him. Mugattu is at it again!
