Cure for the crud?

Ok. I'm laid up with the classic western slope cold: starts in the sinuses and moves down to the lungs where it hangs out for half a month. It is known as the crud.

Curious to hear home remedies or crud stories.

Holupchi - Ukrainian cabbage dish, use the vinegar based sauce. Cures head colds pretty much instantly. There are no recipes, need a Ukrainian (preferably from the Carpathians - the guys from the plains cook like Russians).

Osha root seems to work pretty well too.

If you are seriously congested, pig out on a load of the spiciest buffalo wings you can find. That should have your nose running like a faucet in no time. Repeat treatment every 2 hours.

Also Tea Tree oil and Eucalyptus essential oils. Put some drops on your hands, rub them together and inhale the fumes.

I second that but make sure you include your goods from the dispensary.

Go get a prescription for Advair from your doc- it's a bronchial dilator and will help with the swelling in your lungs. Most of what you're feeling in your chest is swelling, not mucus. I get the same month-long lingering colds every spring and it totally shortens the time it spends in my lungs. Sometimes your doc has samples that they just give you at the office- it's a purple plastic disc in which you breathe in the powdered medicine.

Cold snap. Buy in the vitamin section. You used to have to go to a health food store but I know my local City Market is carrying it now. It's got about 20 different herbs, take 2 in the morning and then anytime you think about it during the day, up to 10 or 12. It has worked for me without fail, I haven't been sick in years and I work in a busy family practice clinic with lots of sick people. I've usually started it as soon as I'm feeling sick so I don't know if it might be too late for you but it's worth a try. Keep it on hand for next time anyway.
