stof - that's a pretty piece of shit thing to say. Every time creek boaters go out, it's on the line. I've never met a good boater that was careless. I've also never met a good boater that was truly a cocky person. Some are very boisterous, but if you've been around long enough, then you've been humbled by the river. Most importantly, I've known a few people that got the short end of the stick and they certainly weren't cocky.
Pushing yourself as Steve, Adam, and Dan did can show you some of the most truly amazing soul changing experiences possible, but they come with the risk. And the experience becomes what it is not simply inspite of the risk, but in part because of it. Stepping over the line in our game is not a character flaw or ultimate fuck-up, but simply a transition of the soul. No one gets out alive, but some will be more alive, for a time.
Deep down inside would anyone creek boat without the risk? Probably, but it wouldn't be the all consuming flame that it is for the truly inspired. RIP my friends - I'll see you soon enough, but tonight I'll have a beer, a smile and a story with friends for you Steve.
I'm not sure I've ever been so bummed about the death of a person I've never met. Not only was Steve Irwin a passionate zoologist and conservationist, he was the most lovable lunatic on television. His children are 8 and 3.
I too will have probably a couple too many beers tonight. He did live life on the edge, though. Crazy bastard. I loved that guy.

He was only the 19th person to be killed by a stingray, at least since people started keeping records of that kinda stuff. If anything he had to be on the top of his game all the time, if he wasn't something would have gotten him long before this.

The were filming a documentary, evidently not one of his more crazy endeavors. He got hit in the chest by the ray's barb. In the article I read, they were speculating that it had gone directly into his heart. Pretty rough way to go, but at least it's over fast. Reminded me of Elliot Smith, though.
I remember the first time I ever saw him on tv. He was in this little metal dingy with some dude (not part of the show) Steve was chit chatting about what was in the water, The Nile, he saw a crock and yelled " I am going in after it!" After that crazy S.O.B. just took 10 minutes to describe what the dangers were in this murky water. Needless to say, as most people can relate, I was hooked on this guy and tuned in everytime I saw him on Tv. He will be missed by many diverse people all over the world. I wish the best for his wife and two kids. You will be missed Steve.

If there's a radio transmitter on that stingray I say we get some dynamite and go after it. Stevesy, I know you're in.
The scientific purpose will be revenge.
I read that the mofo was so tough, he pulled the barb out of his chest just before he lost consciousness.
