I find it interesting that after the Dems passed the disasterous Community Redevelopment Act, the Republican Party had a sitting president in power and controlled the Congress for so many years and still weren't able to save the country from the CRA either by repeal or by altering it.

Another thing is how the R's touted themselves as having such promise being so moral and bringing to government "captains of industry" and MBAs and so on, then proceed to have one of the most incompetent and corrupt administrations in history.

Like Molly Ivins said, "watching the Bush Administration carry out foreign policy is like watching someone play chess who never thinks more than one move ahead."

The Republicans have been telling us for years that government is dysfunctional, corrupt, and wastes taxpayers' money and they've been doing their best to make sure of it.

Seems like every time the R's get 8 years or more in power, the economy goes into the shitter and the Dems have to come and clean up their mess for the country...

Andy, don't forget the Republicans can wave the magic "executive order" wand and do anything they want...

Theo, what's your point that 4 of the 5 were democrats, and Glenn is supporting Obama. They're not running for President, whereas John McCain is.

Nixon was a Republican too, which I don't say to compare McCain or Bush to Nixon, but to say that, if you want a political brand to stain all its descendants, then all Republican nominees for President are Nixon. At least if someone brings up Keating 5, they're talking about the same guy from the late 80s as from now, the guy who said "I haven't paid enough attention to economics as I should have" and the guy who, to paraphrase what I recall you saying two weeks ago, "Hit one out of the park" when he suspended his campaign to go fix the mess on Wall Street.

I actually take McCain on his word at having learned a lesson from Keating 5, despite the fact that one of his senior campaign directors owns a firm that's still taking big bucks from Fannie (or freddie, I can never keep the two separated). I can overlook a lot in politics with the understanding that to err is human.

Still haven't read about ACORN, and will try to over morning coffee.

I do, however, have a difficult time hearing cries of "election fraud" from ANYONE, because it's such an egregious charge, but especially from Republicans after Ohio 2004, I find it hard to muster any outrage on their behalf. Not saying I won't if I see the evidence (as I did, far too late, from Ohio 2004).

The stock market track record for Republican presidents is pretty bad. Here's a short article written in 2003 about the collective records of 1 sided and mixed records (of course 2003-2008 will only drive those numbers lower): Republican rule may have greater long-term effect on market - Nov. 7, 2002

Now, for a more robust analysis to include debt, jobs, GDP, etc; check out the attached article.

I'd just like to say - McCain earned back a bit more respect from me yesterday when he corrected that stoooopid woman who called Obama an Arab, and when the other guy said he was scared. He finally showed some class.

McCain should be campaigning for Obama as well if he really wants to put country first like he said he does.

I guess you're right that is somewhat implied .They have a similar philosophy and tactics but not as extreme in actions, but they've done a lot of damage!A new label is needed,in the 80's I coined the phrase 'neo- fascist corporate oligarchy' to describe Reaganism. That was a bit over the top then, not far off the mark now.

I have heard it put 'privatize the gains ,socialize the losses '. I get what they're saying but,to me thats a misuse of the word socialism. The essence of socialism is the public ownership or more commonly ,control by management/regulation of fundamental resources and systems, you can let free enterprise sub contract from government and fill in the blanks and non essentials. The bailout is the public subsidizing corporate losses,we don't own squat except the debt they incurred.yeah wannabe homeowners that got in over their heads are part of the problem. We created a culture where it is essential to long term financial security, for middle class people to own a home.We induce people into buying homes they can't afford with teaser rates,so brokers can get their commissions.Everybody operated under the assumption the homes value will increase to offset the interest 'adjustment' and provide a piggy bank to loot. The whole thing is a festival of greed.ITYS
