Best town and river combo

Ive been going river to river for one too many seasons now and I want to know from all you rubber pushers what river town has the best vibe? Is the river is sick and the work is steady?

I think you are in it... Truckee/Tahoe City may be about as good as it gets if you don't mind being a lifty in the winter and waiter in the summer. I'm a fan of Kernville, but the water dries up pretty early. The climbing is great. If you want to get out of the dirtbag lifestyle, then head on up to Portland. We have dozens of rivers in the Winter and Spring. Summer dries out, but there are still fun rivers all summer long.

It's hard to beat Buena Vista, Colorado for the summers. You may have to work at a ski hill or travel to another area to guide in the winter, but the Ark has lot's of quality II/III/IV, and the most rafted section of river in the country, Brown's Canyon, so there are lot's of customers to float. Plus Clear Creek and Lake Creek are nearby if you need to take care of your class V creeking fix and we are surrounded by world class mountain biking and rock climbing, for the multi-sport inclined.
GARNA’s mission is to foster stewardship of the resources of the greater Arkansas River region through education, volunteerism and experiences.

Watertown, NY(the black). One of the tightest and friendliest communities in the US. Totally different vibe than the large hotspots you'll find in CO,CA, and the southeast, and with one of the best festivals every year. The guides for whitewater challengers get very consistent work from late april-september. One of the best aspects is there are 4 companies on the river, so the Put-ins and Takeouts are pretty tame. Did I mention the water is warm in May. Rafted trips on the Black qualify as a IV+ trip, but if you are up to it there are several class V options on the normal run for kayakers(or rafters on fun runs), including Great Falls, poop chute, Glen park falls, and for the very lucky there is Bovine Falls once or twice a year. Moose River is about an hour drive if you want some big drop pool stuff.

The headwaters of the Missouri are great for rafting and Madison runs year round, actually got a quake lap in yesterday before the good 8" today

I'd live where you want ski and guide the Grand. After 13 seasons I gave up that chance for a real job . The rest all pays shit.
