There was a little pub off of George or London street near Frederick in Dunedin where all the geology professors hung out...there's where I discovered Emersons. Strong brew for sure...sadly not in a can.

Best fish and chips: hands down the place on the corner a few blocks from the Captin Cook tavern. Used to "forget about the last one and have ourselves another" at the Cook all night playing wiz-bang at the long tables, grab a newspaper wrap full of fush and chups, then head back to the flat to spread the newspapers on the floor and gorge on greasy goodness. Fond memories down in there in southland. Fear and Loathing on Stewart Island though...weird place.

"Best" seems to need a utilitarian caveat here.

Day beer - Ranier for hydration and keeping the head clear with some True Blondes and Sunshine to keep the tongue happy.

Evening - Hoppiness is the key for me, so Dales, Modes Hoparendi, and Third Eye.

Dessert and/or breakfast - Old Chub

Although homebrew kegs are an option with small co2 charges, I'd enjoy hearing that there is a canning option for hombrew.

I passed out a bunch of Old Chubs to celebrate right after Lava Falls in the Grand Canyon, and everyone was hammered before we even got to camp. Rocket fuel, and very tasty.

My favorites for during the day are Dales, Red Stripe, Newcastle, and Sapporo. In a pinch you could probably build a firepan with Sapporo cans.

Wow! A beer shrine. Sort of like the Wailing Wall, but the opposite. The Guzzling Wall, where beer-lovers emit cries of joy.

When I was at college, a midwesterner housemate brought a case of Point beer, which I thought was the best I'd ever had. Not sure it's around anymore. I still think it's the most beautiful can.

Ain't that a smasher?
