To compare anything the Bush administration is doing to the RF footprint makes for an irrelevant analogy. The RFers profess, if not practice, a "religion of environmentalism." Bush follows no such ideology. Therefore, it is pertinent to hold the RF to a higher standard, one which they set for themselves, and one that they did not meet.
I, too, would like to see an aerial of the field on 8/07. I'm sure much of the area will have recovered well. However, they portend that they're beliefs and efforts will "improve" and "heal" mother nature. A maze of trails in a wilderness is NOT improvement.
I am not some uber-greenie. I believe in multi-use practices when applied to OUR (that's right red states included) national lands. Two-strokes don't bother me. But, that being said, I practice leave no trace when backpacking, as do many other thousands of non-patchouli reeking DINKS whose lifestyles are mocked by these earth-children. Who are the hippocrates now?
