damn, you guys also missed: guiness, boddingtons, and a couple other pilsners that i have had that were damn good in a can fresh out of an icy cooler in the desert

It tasted good because it was cold and you were in the desert. Having lived in Ireland there is a definitely taste difference between getting it out of the tap there and getting it from any method here. Guiness from a can tastes like piss compared to the real deal.

As a confirmed beer snob who lives in America, I will say that any beer served from the tap in the brewery will taste better than that same beer served any other way.
That being said, I would rather have that beer, in a can, on a bank of the river, in the desert, even if it wasn't ice cold.
I have to agree. Warm beer in a can on a river in the desert tastes better than any other beer anywhere else.

kevintee, no offense meant, just stating a fact.
None Taken. I'm just pointing out that specifically Guiness tastes like piss when not served from a keg. I don't know what it is but it just does not travel well. Even still it is one of my favorites, but there are definitely far better river beers.

I'm actually a bigger fan of cheap light beer for the river, rather than the expensive stuff. PBR and Old Style are probably my favorite desert river beers. The dark ales just don't do it for me when it's warm. Guinness Draft doen't do much for me anymore either. Too expensive for 3.2 beer.
If I really had my way, I'd take a few kegs of Golden City IPA on the river. That stuff is more like 12%, and tastes awesome.
the best thing about PBR is you don't need water...plus when you are enjoying your dark beer in a can and on number three and toast after paddling all day, the sun etc....you won't be able to keep up with your buddies all night and subject to practical jokes....
