My impression of Obama so far is that he is pretty different for a Democrat who is still working within the two-party system we have. I know, I know, he's not untouchable or plated in gold, but he's not even president yet, so I'm gonna wait a while to see what he actually delivers. I completely agree on the tug of war metaphor. The 'Republican Revolution" that swept Congress in the 90s was a direct result of the Democrats holding and abusing power for too long. Obama was successful for the same reason, but with the Republicans. We need viable third parties to break the endless cycle.
As for getting our duly elected members to show up and act like they have a real job, with regular hours, mandatory responsibilities, two weeks paid holiday, and little to no affordable health insurance, I say give it to 'em!
