Gov't-run-healthcare may be scary, but the only places in the world where every citizen of a country can get healthcare are in those with just such a system. Our system here is great, as long as you either make no money or bathe in it. How's about a compromise? Let's have a single-payer healthcare system with some private for-profit hospitals for those who can afford to buy in. That way if you need some elective surgery like a knee replacement you can either cough up and get it now, or wait with the rest of the unwashed and still get it a little later.
That is, actually, the current system in Canada. I'd much rather be able to go see a doctor for my little stomach ache at a cost of $80 than visit the ER a month later for for a $1500 ulcer. I'd be able to pay for either one of those today, but if I couldn't, then hey, I just got a taxpayer-subsidized health visit! Capitalism may actually benefit from some judiciously applied socialism... (The boogeyman speaks!)
