Admin ethics question

Hey Andy ,GH,or other administrator,

Are there any legal issues with posting photo copies of paper text from books as long as they are properly acknowledged?I want to post a few pages of text. Most people can post a link to back up their points with info on the internet. Most of my info comes from paper books and mags this puts me at a disadvantage in debate, especially since the books and computer are in different locations.Sure, most info will be available somewhere on the net ,but i like the specific wording of the authors.

If there are no legal issues, are there ethical issues for Mountainbuzz.Obviously we don't want people bombarding the site with propaganda of any stripe. Is it poor form to take up a bunch of the space/memory capacity of the site,or is this trivial? What are the parameters?Pardon my ignorance,i am probably the least tech savvy person on this site.Thank you.

the first place to look is in the copyright section of whatever document you want to post. Most have wording like "this may not be reproduced by any means including electronic, photocopy, written, verbal, smoke signals, etc." If you don't see anything there that prohibits what you want to do to post it, then you're a go. I think a lot of copyrights allow very limited excerpts with proper citation but that's about it. Unfortunately periodicals and just about anything that comes off a commercial printing press is covered by that kind of copyright language. Sorry that this probably isn't the answer you were hoping for.
