WTB good, cheap, waterproof camera

Looking for a decent waterproof point & shoot digital camera.

Something I can keep in the pocket of my pfd, $100 range, won't be suicidal if I drop it in the river.

I am not aware of any "decent" waterproof cameras in the $100 range. Most are $200+ but you could use a non-waterproof camera and get a decent cheap waterproof enclosure for it? I have an Olympus Tough which is waterproof but it doesn't take great pictures. I usually take along my Canon G10 as well for once at camp to get better pics.

Check out this link for waterproof case options:

I picked up one of those Fuji $120 waterproof cameras last year. The image quality is so-so, and it takes a minute to wake up. Still took lots of great river photos last spring. After a visit to the islands this winter, it no longer zooms and the flash is "always on." But, for $120, I plan to get another one for this spring runoff! I had one of those same Fuji cams and it was kind of a piece of junk. I would get something else...

I have had good luck with the Olympus line of waterproof/shockproof digital cameras, believe I have the 1050SW. Think they are waterproof to 10ft and I haven't had any trouble having them in the river/taking underwater pics. Image quality is in line with most point/shoot models, nothing special, but good enough for me. For the price range you mentioned, maybe check out the Olympus Tough 6000 ($95 refurbished from BuyDig)

I'm on my third Pentax, the W90. Great pix on the river or the slopes, tons of options. 12mp.

Eh...not in the ~$100 range, though.

My wife brings her Nikon D5000, does the Statue of Liberty thing for Class 2, and stashes it above that.

This is what I settled on.
SVP WP5300 12.0MP Black Digital Video Camera with 4GB Micro SD Card

Brief Description

Item#: 13394576
  • This 12-megapixel waterproof digital camera is a small and light answer to your photo needs. This digital camera is innovative and powerful, yet slim and durable.

69 bucks on

hasn't arrived yet, so no review. I think it'll fit my needs and I won't be too freaked out if the river eats it. I'll post a review when we get back from the middle fork in a few weeks. That should be a good test.

Waterproof camera

I bought a cheapy at Walmart. It is a Vivitar. I've used it several times. Picture quality is pretty good for cheap. I ussually have a 2g card in mine. Batteries last fairly long. Also has a video feature. No sound tho. That's ok just put some tunes to your vids Was in the pocket of my vest when I swam the Room of Doom.
I paid I think it was about $90.00
Hope this gives you a little insight.

Nikon AW100 was announced around 8/24/11 for around $380. Available 9/8/11. Waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, freezeproof, but not loseproof. GPS (with mapping) and 1080p. First one I've found that has all the above features.
