Whitewater paddling magazines

I would like to subscribe to a white water paddling magazine. Some of the ones i've been looking at are Rapid, Canoe & Kayak, Paddler. Rapid sends out 4 issues per year, Canoe & Kayak 6, not sure on Paddler. Does anyone have opinions on which one to get?

American Whitewater. You support a great organization and you get a quality mag for the cost +- of the other mags.

AW is great to support and you get the journal too. Great value. Kayak session is the best produced kayak mag from a quality and content perspective IMO. Regular contributions by Doug Ammons and steve fisher are highlights. High quality reports from around the globe are awesome.

I agree with AW and Sessions. I had Canoe and Kayak for a year. Their customer service sucked and content was slightly better than reading an NRS catalog.

I'm pretty biased since I work for Rapid but I'll give you my opinion for what it's worth:
Rapid - All whitewater, run by paddlers who like to have fun, mix of tips, techniques, photos, trips, etc.(money back guarantee as well)
Paddler is no longer
C&K cover all aspects of paddling in one mag (so if you want SUP, kayak fishing, canoeing and sea kayaking stuff thats a bonus)
Session - kick ass photo spreads (and nice and glossy)
AW - good mix of editorial and photo

Just my thoughts on it for what it's worth. You can email me at if you have specific questions.

I love the photos in kayak session, but there are so many typos and other small mistakes in there. (Every time they published a photo of or by me, the photo credit was wrong in some way or other). The terrible grammar and flimsy articles almost make me embarrassed to be a paddler. My only consolation is that their proofreader is probably french, and I certainly couldn't proofread a whole magazine in my non-native language. Then again, that's not much of an excuse...

If only there were a magazine halfway between AW and Kayak session.

Banks and bomb flow are the way to go
epic pics in banks mag.
I prefer banks over bomb flow number one it fits in your backpocket has great readings and great pics.
Plus I haven't seen bombflow vol2 so banks has upper hand with multiple issues
