I've been paddling a 12-inch Pack Cat for 20 years— great boat— but I do think the Fat version w/16-inch tubes is better all-around. It makes a great support boat for kayaks on smaller streams.
For the Escalante (UT) a 7-8 day trip, I built some gear floors, on the same pattern as Paco's tramp seats.
Yup— Cutting and gluing the d-ring patches was a butt-cramp. To keep the tubes from rolling inward with a load, I made some crossbars.
Also ran straps between the end dees and the crossbar, which helped. Just posted this on another thread.
Single and double 12-inch Pack Cats loaded for 8 days. I paddled the long one. Nice low loads. Great trip.
