Waka vs JK vs Phantom @North Fork Champs

Holy muppet mayhem. The boat company clearly inspired by fozzy the bear's waka-waka-waka call made a hell of a presence at the NFC this year.

Seemed like there were an equal number of pros in the Tuna compared to the Zen, compared to Daggers. Anyone know more of the background on Waka's funding? Are they making a push on Jackson and Confluence's U.S. market share? Because that would be pretty sweet IMO.

Also of interest, i confirmed my suspicions at the Dagger tent: They are testing shapes in something they call the Phantom project. Basically a race worthy fast creeker similar to the idea behind the 9R. Several boaters were in it rather than the Mamba on final day.

Hell of a race! Upsets and inconsistent runs by nearly every pro in Jake's and then Tad Dennis, a c-1'r swoops in and blows nearly all of them away with 1/2 a paddle and twice the style. The crowd was in mayhem, roaring as he flew thru the course. Unreal!

I think, rather, it's more due to the influence of Evan Garcia being the Waka distributor in Hood River, and the fact that many/most of the NFC boaters live in Hood River.

Not to say it's not a good/great boat; it probably is.

But these are sometimes just trends. For almost a decade the Remix was the NFC boat. But now the Remix is an older design and they are a bit harder to find, and other boats have supplanted the Remix. The Zen is a popular design the past few years and obviously has the Jackson promotional arm behind it. Same with the Mamba.

I wasn't impressed with that new Dagger prototype. It was super narrow.
