You have got to be kidding right
Sleeping on the ground is for the young and restless IMHO (lol). Once you ~make the move~ you will realize the benefits. Main benie is WARM and DRY (never have to worry about comfort in rain storm again).
All the gear involved with tent camping is a pain to me. Once I tried sleeping in a PU with a topper, I was hooked. Then I tried a VW Westphalia (Westy) and I was hooked on the conversion van idea. You never need to pack, have privacy, can pull over anywhere, inclement weather related issues are non-existent (wet tent to pack up, leaks onto sleeping gear, lighting a stove in the rain...).
My latest addition was a fridge powered by 12 v. I now dont even have to mess with a cooler and ice/melting water. Picked up a Waeco 12v CF at a garge sale for 35 bucks, brand new $650 on the internet. Its a toploader, so unlike a fridge in a Westy none of the cold air drains out when you open the door. Never did like that about front loading 12v fridges cuz it takes them too long to cool back down eating up precious electricty if your parked. I always have COLD BEER at the takeout and no mess with ice.
I wish I had a van when I was younger, pushing rubber down the new river (and hard shelling it) 20 years ago. I would have written of tent camping then too.
Seriously, once you try it I bet you wont go back. Its a LOT of LESS work to go on a trip. Everything is already packed and the comfort factor is awesome.
