Would you say the Mamba is noticeably faster than the Stomper?

I would! But I only have 2 runs in a stomper; 1 sf payette canyon run and 1 deadwood. The stomper is a good boat, but I'd say it shines more in the steeper drops and slides of rocks better. Maybe even boofs a bit better. I own a mamba and have used it a bunch. But for my boating style, the diesel 80 rules!

I own a Stomper 90 and have paddled the mamba creeker. I paddle low volume class 4 and some 5 and the Stomper is great for that. I would agree with others that the Mamba would be perfect for high volume NZ creeking. It carves and holds a line well, better than the Stomper. It definitely punches holes with ease. It boofs well, but not as well as the stomper, it's not an auto boofer imo. My only critique would be that it paddles a little bigger than the Stomper and it's not quite as nimble in tight quarters, but that might be what you want in NZ. Also the new Wavesport/Dagger outfitting with the ratcheting seat bottom is SO sweet!

Is there any boat that paddles smaller than a stomper, has rails but is still good for class 5 I described? I'm thinking pyrana burn might come up here? If the mamba paddles bigger than the stomper then I may not be that keen...

Why don't you buy a bliss stick? The Tuna and the Mystic seem to be the boats you are looking for and they don't need an expensive plane ticket from the US.

Bliss stick boats are shit. Ive been to the factory and they are careless and i have seen way too many of their boats break to bother with them. Now that Waka kayaks are out and about with the Tuna mould however, i am considering a Waka Tuna (same plastic as Zet kayaks and moulded in the Necky factory). This is still a forum comparing the Mamba and Stomper though

I am late to the party here, but I have an opinion I'd like to share.

I can't say I've paddled NZ, and I dont know how your big water styles compare to the US Colorado creeks and rivers here, and I cant say I've paddled any class V rivers, mostly class IV creeks and low volume rivers. ie, gore under 1100cfs. so...

I did learn a while back that If you paddle a creek/river boat with a similar hull design to your playboat that there is less transition from one boat to the next. I have a super fun for a playboat and a L karma as a creeker. They feel the same going in and out of eddys on edge, the speed is not there in the PB, but I am doing well in this combo.

I had a villain L and a superfun, I get what people are saying about displacment hulls on creeks tho, my karma requires more attention than the villain on rocky runs, I get that now.

But if anyone is a class V boater I bet they could paddle any combo boats they like, put a medium karma on your demo list, I think you'd like it.
